Eljen systems can be used in locations with limited space. Each section is made up of a plastic core surrounded by geotextile fabric. Dispersal piping is placed on top of each Eljen section which then dips effluent into the individual sections within each mat. This process allows for the transfer of oxygen which supports aerobic bacterial growth while developing a biomat treatment layer. Sand placed beneath and around the mats will further filtrate the effluent waste water. The final filtration takes place as the effluent disperses into the native soil that was previously scarified prior to placing of the sand. The system will be inspected after installation and then covered with topsoil. The owner will then receive a certificate of occupancy after completion.
